Hmmm, where do I even start about today? It began with me having no sleep because I left the house at 3:30am and that’s the time I usually go to bed. The first fligh left at 6:30am to Atlanta. This was my first ever time in a plane and I was a little freaked out. My chest was tightening, I was shaking, and my tummy was very angry. The flight really wasn’t bad though and didn’t seem that long (a little over 2 hours). It was pretty easy finding our terminal in the Atlanta airport, and we even had to take a train within it. That flight also went well and I liked the variety of different Caribbean people on it to San Juan. We had Jamaican women sitting behind us and I love listening to their accents. The flight was mostly over the ocean which actually looked like an upside down sky because we were so high up. When we finally got to flying over Puerto Rico I was delighted at the sight of beaches and palm trees, all of the green! I really miss the color green in winter. The trip was going great until we got to the check in. Our tickets said we were leaving at 4:30pm but the woman at the counter said that we missed our flight and put us on an 8:20 flight. Ummm, how do we miss our flight if it’s not until 4:30 and we got there at 3:40?! So we were stuck in the crazy horrible San Juan airport for almost 5 hours instead of enjoying St. Croix with everyone else. When we did finally board our flight (a cute little 9 passenger hopper plane) we were about to take off when the pilot noticed we didn’t have enough fuel to make the flight. Good thing she noticed before we took off! We then had to wait about 25 minutes for the fuel truck to get there, then fuel up the plane. I really enjoyed the little flight but wish that it would’ve been during the day so I could see more out the window. We finally made it to St. Croix somewhere around 10pm. Poor Ken & Jen still don’t have their bags because for some reason Delta still has the bags in San Juan. We were also supposed to get picked up at the airport but he left thinking we had caught a cab because our flight was so late getting in. So we waited around for quite some time then got a cab. We finally got to Chenay Bay Beach resort a little past 11pm. From what I’ve seen at night I’m really excited to see this place during the day. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a few hours sleep then wake up early and get as much sunshine as possible before the wedding. I haven’t slept since Wednesday night.
After breakfast I decided to take a long walk along the beach. This boat was was washed ashore during the last hurricane.
We had some time to chill out since the wedding wasn’t until 4:30pm so we hung out around the pool and I decided to try out my dicapac (waterproof bag for my compact camera).
Ahh, my first day on the beautiful island of St. Croix. It started out very early because I didn’t sleep the night before so I laid in bed waiting for the clock to hit 5:30am before deciding to get up and take a look around. I took a little walk down to the beach where I sat and waited for the sun to rise and brighten up the sky. Of course I didn’t know what direction east was so the sun rose behind me and I didn’t get the sunrise over the ocean like I was hoping for. I still had a bunch of time to kill because the restaurant doesn’t open until 8:am for breakfast so I decided to videotape a little walking tour of the resort to take up some time. As soon as it got to be 8:am I sat down for my breakfast which was fantastic! I loved being able to sit outside overlooking the beach while enjoying the delicious food.
